A series of meetings in Heraklion were held on behalf of IAHC by the Environmental Manager Mr. Dimitris Paterelis and the Technical Site Manager Mr. George Spiliopoulos who together with the Coordinator of Decentralized Administration of Crete Mrs. Maria Kozyraki, discussed with the Mayor of Heraklion Mr. Vassilis Lambrinos and afterwards with the President of the Heraklion Port Authority Mr. Vardava Ioannis, about the development of the Program of Monumental Olive Trees .
The meeting took place in the context of the Memorandum of Understanding between IAHC and Decentralized Administration of Crete for the proper management of the monumental plant capital. The plan is the protection of the olive trees and the transplantation of some of them in a temporary place until they are permanently transferred to a properly designed spot inside the facilities of the new Airport. Some of them are proposed to be transplanted in specific parts of the region of Heraklion in order to become landmarks. Both the Mayor and the President of HPA agreed with the initiative and the next procedures that are to be carried out for the development of the project are expected.
